Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost?
It costs $20 perhour to rent the PowerQuilter 16.0. There is a 2 hour minimum.
There is a $40 non-refundable deposit required to reserve your time ($42.20 with tax!). The deposit is then applied to your final charge.
How long will it take?
To determine how many hours you should reserve for your project we take a few factors into consideration; such as, the size of your quilt and the density/complexity of your intended quilting pattern. We will help you estimate how many hours to allow when you call or stop by to make your reservation.
Do I need to take a class before I can rent your quilting machine?
No class is necessary prior to reserving your time. Our expert staff will walk you through the process as you go.
Do I need to know how to free motion before renting your machine?
Yes and no. You will want to know how to free motion before renting the machine if you intend to quilt an actual project. However, you are welcome to rent the machine if you've never done free motion before but want to practice. Our staff is available to help you learn to use the sit-down mid-arm machine, but learning free motion technique is up to you. Some people estimate it takes between 8 - 40 hours of practice before you will be proficient.
Should I baste my quilt before I bring it in?
Yes! You must baste your project before quilting it on this machine. If you are going to baste with a glue type product - please ensure it is appropriate for being sewn through. Some glues will gum up the needle and thread and make your stitching have major issues. When in doubt our staff is happy to show you glue products we recommend.
What do I have to bring?
Bring your three quilt layers (all basted together). The backer and batting will need to be at least 3 inches larger than your quilt top on all sides. You will also want to bring long-arm machine quilting thread or purchase some when you come in to quilt.
What thread should I use?
You will need to use long-arm machine quilting thread. We carry a wide variety of Signature long-arm machine quilting thread that is available for you to purchase. You are also welcome to supply your own long-arm machine quilting thread. We just ask you to remember that quality thread leads to quality results while cheap or old threads will make you pull your hair out! ;)
Does this quilting machine have a regulator?
Absolutely! You can use the optional TruStitch regulator or stitch in manual mode. Whatever you prefer.
What if I have a question while I’m quilting?
