My First T-Shirt (for Kids)

Sewing with knits can be both challenging and so rewarding! Let's start by making the Jolly Roger Raglan - the raglan sleeves on this t-shirt make it an approachable first knitwear project. You can customize your look by using two different fabrics for the body and sleeves and/or by adding embellishments at the end.
In this class, we will learn about the joys and challenges of sewing with stretchy fabrics, adding a knit neckband, and (optionally) hemming using a twin needle.
We will be using the Jolly Roger Raglan pattern by Patterns for Pirates (sizes 3 months to youth 14). This pattern designer has raglan patterns in adult sizes as well - please consult with Bernie before ordering your pattern if that is what your child needs. You will need to purchase, print, and tape together the PDF pattern before class.
This is an advanced-beginner level class for sewists aged 7 to 13. Students should know how to thread and operate a sewing machine. Sewing on stretchy fabric is a step up in difficulty, so I recommend students have a few projects under their belt before taking this class. Students who have begun to learn to use a serger may opt to make this project on a serger.
Students are welcome to bring their own sewing machine, or to use one of our classroom machines.
Participants will need to have a waiver and registration form signed by a parent/guardian. This paperwork will be sent out two weeks before class, along with a supply list.
