Beginning Sewing with Bernie - Cut Chenille Baby Blanket

You just might get hooked on cut chenille after taking this class! The process of sewing the layers together and cutting the chenille is simple and meditative, and in the end you'll have a uniquely textured baby blanket that is great for tummy time or keeping little ones cozy in cool weather. We will learn about using walking feet, quilting guides, and slash cutters, as well as marking 45-degree angles.
We will touch on binding options in this class, but will likely not have time to discuss binding in detail. We do a complete lesson on straight-edge binding in Beginning Sewing #5: Zip-It Pillow, and if you'd like to do rounded corners like Bernie did on his sample, check out Outside the Box: Binding a Curved Quilt on May 13th. Bernie is also available to help with any binding questions during the Self-Paced Quilting and Sewing Lab.
This is a beginner-level class for sewists aged 16 and up. All students should know how to operate their sewing machine.
Bring your sewing machine or call ahead if you need to reserve a classroom sewing machine.
MACHINE REQUIREMENT: Your machine must have a walking foot or built-in dual feed system, plus a quilting guide, to successfully take on this project. Please feel free to reach out with any questions about this requirement.
Participants under 18 will need to have a waiver and registration form signed by a parent/guardian.
A supply list will be sent out at least ten days before class.
