Beginning Sewing 101

Brand new to sewing, or returning after a long hiatus? Start here! This class will help you operate your sewing machine with confidence and provide new sewists with the skills needed to get started on the right foot.
We will cover the following topics:
How to thread your machine
Bobbin winding
Adjusting your stitch length and width
Reverse and backstitching
Thread tension
Stitching straight lines, corners and curves
Keeping a consistent seam allowance
Best practices for pinning and pressing
Clipping and notching curves
A supply list will be emailed to you at least one week before class.

This class replaces two classes called Sewing Machine 101 and Beginning Sewing 101. The curriculum is the same, combined into one registration for your convenience!

Instructor Bio: | Bernie Taylor (he/him) is a sewist and multimedia artist from rural upstate New York. He received a B.S. in Digital Arts and Sciences from Clarkson University and an M.S. in Surface Imaging from Philadelphia University, specializing in textile design and inkjet printing for textiles, respectively. His creative interests include color theory, improv quilting, repurposing materials, functional home sewing projects, and making toys and games for his bunny, Frankie. He loves troubleshooting and brainstorming - ask him anything! |
