In our new Skill-Build Your Piecing series, we will explore the different piecing techniques that form the foundations of many traditional and modern quilt blocks. Starting from the basics and progressing into more challenging piecing, each month we will focus on a different block featuring a new foundational technique.
PLEASE NOTE that this is a technique class - we will not end the class with a finished project. We will complete one block together and you can incorporate the block into the project of your choice.
Class 2: Crosses and Losses
This block features half-square triangles, an important building block in many traditional and modern quilt patterns. Skills taught or reinforced: half-square triangles, nesting seams, squaring up.
The Skill-Build Your Piecing series works from the book Quilt Block Genius by Sue Voegtlin.
All sewists ages 16+ with beginner quilting skill and up are welcome. Students should have a basic understanding of cutting with a rotary cutter and ruler, sewing a consistent 1/4" seam, and squaring up blocks and block units. If you need a refresher on any of these skills, please feel free to schedule a private lesson with Bernie ahead of class or consider signing up for our Beginning Quilting class for a solid foundation in quilting skills.
Bring your sewing machine or call ahead if you need to reserve a classroom sewing machine.
Participants under 18 will need to have a waiver and registration form signed by a parent/guardian.
