Creative clothing is a series of monthly 3 hour classes in which the instructor, Lorraine Torrence, assigns two garment challenges from which to choose, to be completed at home during the following month. The challenges are focused on a particular theme or technique for students to interpret as they are inspired. Classes include a show and tell/critique/discussion of the assigned challenge given the previous month, or, in the case of the first class, sent a month before the class begins. After the show and tell in each class the remainder of the class involves the handing out of the next month's assignments with examples, handouts, demos and/or inspirational slide shows that will inform the students' work in the following month. There are 9 classes in the year, beginning in September and ending in May. The classes are sold in independent 3 month clusters and a syllabus for the year is available before the beginning of each year.A knowledge of at least intermediate garment construction is presumed to take the class, as this is not a garment construction class. One may take any or all clusters during the year without prerequired clusters.
